Patricia's story

Patricia Gregory (care worker)

I became a care worker because I wanted a job that allowed me to give something back to my local community. Often the people that I’m looking after have lived their whole life in this area, and it’s great to know that you’re helping them stay in the place they love. Respect and dignity are hugely important in this role, and I treat everyone the same way I would want my mother or father to be treated if they were in the same situation.

I like the job because it fits with my family commitments. My husband also works shifts so I can work around him and still be at home to cook my three sons a meal in the evening. The flexibility is great - I currently work full-time, but I can pick up extra shifts whenever I want them.

It’s a very rewarding job, but it can be quite challenging at times as well. But I have a very supportive manager, and all the office staff are helpful too, so it’s reassuring to know I’ve got a fantastic team I can rely on.
